Angling is a versatile fishing method with which you can catch nearly anything that swims in our waters. You can catch roach, bream, tench, perch, trout, and pike as long as you use the right bait and equipment. Angling is a very pleasant family fishing activity - it's simple and you often get bites! The perfect gateway to a lifelong passion. The fascinating thing about angling is that there are almost no limits when it comes to gadgets and techniques. It can be very simple but also very sophisticated. Angling is in many ways the perfect fishing method that suits both the young and the old as well as beginners and enthusiasts.

Angling is usually divided into competition angling and specimen angling. Competition angling is about catching more fish than your competitors in the same water during, for example, 4 hours, whereas specimen angling is about targeting the largest fish.

Does it sound complicated? Ask us! We have the knowledge and the gear you need - from simple angling rods and sensitive floats to electronic bite alarms and specialty hooks for carp angling. Selected quality equipment that evidently catches a lot of fish.

Pole & Float Fishing

Angling is our most classic fishing method, and dock fishing with an older relative and one's own fishing rod has been the starting point for many fishing careers. Starting to angle is very simple, requiring only a fishing rod with a fishing line and some worms. However, for the truly dedicated, angling offers incredibly many exciting challenges and a plethora of fishing gear needed to cover all fishing situations.

Begin pole & float fishing

To start angling, a ready-made angling kit is perfect. These typically consist of a telescopic fishing rod between 3-5m, which is ideal. For children or when fishing in smaller waters like small streams or rivers, a 3m fishing rod is a good choice. Otherwise, 4-5m is the most common length. These fishing rods can be purchased very affordably and work excellently for regular angling, for example, for perch. When purchasing, check whether the fishing line is included or if it needs to be bought separately. If buying an additional fishing line, aim for one approximately as long as the rod. For more advanced anglers, there are several rods specifically designed for certain species or fishing situations. In these cases, they are often referred to as specimen rods.

Angling with Specimen Rods

Specimen rods are spinning rods adapted for bottom and float angling for species such as tench, rudd, roach, bream, carp, and ide. Rod lengths around 10 to 14 feet are standard, and the blanks often have a softly cushioning backbone—this allows for the use of small single hooks and thin nylon lines without risking line breakage or losing a fish as a result.

Three Tips for a More Enjoyable pole fishing Experience:

  • If you buy a ready-made fishing rod with a line, it’s a great way to get started quickly and easily.
  • Using a float setup allows you to detect bites more accurately and adjust your fishing depth.
  • Patience and observation are key—watch the water for movement and adjust your technique accordingly for better results.
